On October 12, 2005, I received an email from Carol McCrellias ofRochester/Honeoye Falls, NY (cmccrellias@@frontdiernet.net) updating ourinformation on the descendants of James Monroe White. Included in thatinformation was the following article printed in the AshevilleCitizen-Times on 12 January, 1999:
BRYSON CITY - Roxie Dale White Carpenter Johnson, 86, of tdhe GrassyBranch community, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, in a Kenner, LA hospidtal.
A native of Rowan County, KY, she had lived idn Swain County for the past16 years. She was of the Church of God faith and was preceded in deathby a son and a daughter, Douglas and Deborah and three brothers, Denver,Allie and Orville.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Kermit Johnson; twodaughters, Brenda Murphy of Valdese and Lou Cuccia of Kenner, LA.; fivesons, Melvin Carpenter of Lakeview, Ohio, James Carpenter of Streetsboro,Ohio, Norman Carpenter of Lexington, KY., Gene Carpenter of Carson City,Nev., and Kermit Johnson Jr., of Lincoln Park, Mich; three sisters,Arlena Webb of Middletown, Ohio, Leona Mattney of Mansfield, Ohio, andRosemary Wright of Clearfield, Ky.; three brothers, James White ofWinedott, Mich, Edsel and Wayne White of Clearfield, Ky., and 24grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and three great-greatgrandchildren.
She was the daughter-in-law of the late Catherine Lindsay Johnson (noteby CMCC: Charlotte Catherine (Lindsay) Johnson)
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of CrispFuneral Home with the Rev. Robert Clegg officiating. Burial will be inSwain Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeralhome." (End of article)
