Zachariah had a largefamily . His first dwelling was a log cabin at the end of the lane, justabove the present dam site. Later this house became the property of hisgrandson Will Carrithers who added a two story frame house to the old logcabin. Zachariah built the brick house up the lane which was later ownedby Charles Cochran, then Frank and Earl Cochran."
"Zachariah was married to Sarah Powell, born in 1778, a daughter ofWilliam Powell of Virginia. William Bridgewater was the bondsman.Bridgewater later became a large landowner in the Spencer Countyterritory , and was one of the five original trustees of Taylorsville in1799."
"Zachariah and Sarah had 12 children most of whom are buried at thebrick house, now demolished by the Corps. The children were:

"William P. distinguished himself in real estate in Spencer County .There was a continual process of buying and selling of city lots andlands during his lifetime. Much of this property was bought at theCourthouse steps for very little money. John S. built the large framewhite house, later owned by John Clarke Carrithers, for his bride. Themarriage never materialized. John gave the land for Culpepper School andnamed it Culpepper after a county in Virginia. Angeline Clarke marriedWilliam B. Murphey.
