"Jesse Horner, son of John and Sally (Sparks) Horner, was born onMarch 5, 1816, in Hickman County. He was probably named for his paternalgrandfather. He was married to Mary Malinda Patterson on October 28,1838. Polly (as she was called) had been born on October 24, 1822, andwas a daughter of Robert Carson and Malinda (Carson) Patterson. JesseHorner died on October 20, 1857, at the age of 41 years, leaving Pollywith a large family of children, the youngest being only two months old.Shortly thereafter, probably about 1858 or 1859, Polly re-married, thistime to Jesse Sparks, Jr. , an uncle of her first husband. When the 1860census was taken, they were living in Perry County where their first, andonly, child would be born the following December. (See Item G, below.)Polly died on December 26, 1892. She and Jesse Horner had nine children.

"Jesse Pleasant Horner was born on August 8, 1844. He was marriedfour times. His first marriage was to Mary Carolyn Mays on January 3,1866, in Perry County. She had been born on February 7, 1846. She diedon August 12, 1872, when their second child was born. Jesse was married(2nd) to Margaret Gray on October 28, 1872, in Perry County, and they hadseven children before her death, which occurred about 1885. The thirdmarriage of Jesse was to Mary Braden on April 22, 1886, in HumphreysCounty. She died nineteen days later.
"The fourth (and last) marriage of Jesse Horner was to Minnie Ball onAugust 1, 1886. They had six children before Jesse died on May 25, 1901,in Dyer County. After his death, Minnie moved her six small children toNashville where they lived in the Tennessee Masonic Home.
"By his first marriage, Jesse Horner had two children, Robert Franklinand Mollie. He had seven children by his second marriage: William,Edward Jesse, Mattie, Thomas W., Lee, Lula, and Lillie. By his lastmarriage he had: Neal, Allene, Duncan, Mary, Ida, and Joe.

It was there that hewas married to Elizabeth ["Bettie"] Dilworth Patterson on September 8,1844. She had been born on December 22, 1827, and was a daughter ofRobert C. and Malinda (Carson) Patterson. She died on September 29,1892, and was buried in the Pineview Cemetery. She and John had twelvechildren. After her death, John was married (2nd) to Nancy ["Kate"](Owens) Smith. He died on January 18, 1913, in Humphreys County and wasburied in the Pineview Cemetery. (Portraits drawn of John Valentine andElizabeth D. (Patterson) Horner have been reproduced on...page [3539].)"

"Martha Ellen Horner was born about 1863 and was described by arelative as being quite beautiful. She was married (lst) to Dr. John L.Bone on January 6, 1879, and they had at least one child who was born tothem on September 2, 1882. The child, Luna Pearl Bone, died on September12, 1885. Dr. Bone died shortly thereafter and was buried in the BoneCemetery near the Perry-Humphreys Counties boundary.
"After the death of her husband, John Bone, Martha Ellen was married(2nd) to her brother-in-law, Matthew J. Gray, on April 22, 1890, inHumphreys County. (See Item A, 4, g, above.) They moved to Oregon in 1902and both of them died there. They had five children: Claude, Arnold,Claytie, George, and Eloise. Arnold and George died when they were quiteyoung and were buried in the Wyley Cemetery at Waverly, Tennessee.

He hadbeen born on February 8, 1846, and was a son of William and MalvinaJosephine (Branch) Patterson. Martha Patterson died on March 28, 1921,and Ezra died on January 12, 1942. They were buried in the PineviewCemetery. They had ten children: Emma, Viola, Laura, William, Cora,Robert, Jesse, Elbert, Eva, and Ray."

"Mary Elizabeth Horner was born on October 19, 1848. On January 18,1866, she was married to John Cooper Pinkerton in Perry County. He hadbeen born on October 16, 1842, and was a son of William and Margaret["Peggy"] (Cooper) Pinkerton. He died on May 12, 1899, in Perry County.
After his death, Peggy's sons wanted to move to Western Tennessee, buttheir mother resisted because she was afraid that if she moved, she wouldnot be buried beside her husband in Pineview Cemetery. She survived himmany years, dying on February 25, 1936, and was buried beside herhusband. She was the maternal grandmother of Minnie Lancaster who hasbeen most helpful in the preparation of this article. John and MaryElizabeth had eight children: William, Margaret, Polina, Robert, MarthaAnn, Sophronia, James, and Ellen.

["Dillie'll Whitfield on December 22,1871. She had been born on February 24, 1851, and was a daughter ofThomas Jefferson Whitfield. Robert and Dillie lived in Humphreys Countywhere he died on March 17, 1885. Dillie died there on June 3, 1901.They had four children: Foster, Anna, Thomas ["Jack"], and Robert."

She had been born on February 5,1826, and was a daughter of Robert C. and Malinda (Carson) Patterson.She died on June 12, 1872. After her death, Russell was married (2nd) toSarah ["Sally"] (Patterson) Pitts on November 10, 1872, in GibsonCounty. She was a widow with two children. She was also a cousin ofRussell's first wife. Russell died on November 14, 1882, and was buriedin the Pineview Cemetery in Perry County. He and Martha Ann were theparents of eight children."

He and Sarah had five childrenbefore her death, which probably occurred shortly after the birth oftheir youngest child on July 28, 1889. Sarah was buried in the GrayCemetery in Perry County. She and Matthew had five children: Russell,Edward, Gertrude, Bertie, and Mary."

"William Russell Horner was born on February 20, 1848. He took somemedical training at Nashville University and then served as an apprenticedoctor on Cypress Creek in Perry County. He was married to AmandaFrances Pace on November 25, 1869, in Perry County. She had been born onMarch 23, 1851, and was a daughter of William and Juliana (Thompson)Pace. William and Amanda moved to Humphreys County in March 1879 wherehe started a medical practice. He became a successful physician. Amandadied on March 21, 1936, and William died on april 22, 1944. They wereburied in the McKeel Cemetery in Humphreys County. (This cemetery wasoriginally called Trinity Cemetery.) William and Amanda had eightchildren: Lauretta, Margaret, John, Charles, Lelia, Lizzie, William, andJesse."
