WILLIAM BOARMAN, GENT. (1654-1720)
William Boarman, son and heir of Major William Boarman and Sarah,
his wife, was born about 1654 at his father's plantation in St. Mary's
County. His father failed to mention him in his will, but as the son
and heir according to the feudal law he acquired his father's lordship
of 3,333 acres with all manorial prerogatives. He discovered, howeve r,
some surplus land or faulty boundaries, so before his death he petiti oned
the Lord Proprietary for a correction and the permission to add surpl us
land to his manor. The resurvey, however, was not made until after h is
death.
His first wife was Jane, daughter of Captain James Neale and Ann G ill
his wife, whose father held lordship on Wollaston Manor. Captain Jam es
Neale dying in 1683 made his daughter one of the residuary heirs an d be-
queathed personalty to his granddaughter, Jane Boarman, but her fathe r,
William Boarman, was to retain possession until her marriage or coming
of age. (the article continues).
See GARDINER GENERATIONS AND RELATIONS by Thomas Richard Gardiner,
Vol II, Descendants of William Boarman, p. 2 for the following:
".... William Boarman (of William), born 1652 in St. Mary's City,
St. Mary's County, Maryland; died 1720, in Boarman's Manor, Bryantown,
Maryland. He married (1) 1675, in Wollaston Manor, Issue, Maryland,
Jane Neale; and married (2) 1700, in St. Mary's County, Maryland, Mar yPile, daughter of Joseph Pile and Mary Turner. His father, Maj. Wi lliamBoarman,
in his will dated 16 May, 1708, probated on 17 June, 1709, did not mention
his oldest son, William, even though his son, William was alive at th etime
of his father's death. This was obviously due to the fact that Maj .William
Boarman had moved from Boarman Manor to his new home, Boarman's Rest,
leaving Boarman Manor to his son William. William and Jane Neale Boarman,
daughter of Captain James Neale and Ann Gill, had the following child ren:
William, Jane (died young), Henrietta, Ann, and Sarah. By his secon dwife
Mary Pile, daughter of Captain Joseph Pile of St. Mary's County, Will iam
Boarman had the following children: Joseph Boarman who died single i n1730,
Jane, Thomas James, and lastly Mary Boarman who married John Gardiner .It
now appears that (js: the father of) this William Boarman, known as Major, had other wives whom former genealogists listed as wives of th eProgenitor, Capt. William Boarman and which I also listed with Capt .William Boarman, until a will of Capt. William Boarman was discover edshowing a date of probate to be 1684. These other wives are Mar yMathews and Mary Jarboe."
(JS: I think the good Mr. Gardiner is again in error. He states abo vethat "His father, Maj. William Boarman in his will dated 16 May, 1 708,probated on 17 June, 1709..." How could it be probated in 1684 ? TheMajor was married three times: first to Sarah Sinley, then t o MaryMathews and to Mary Jarboe.)
