The following information was received on March 25, 2000 by email from Jean Feaster, (blujean@southwind.net) of Augusta, Kansas, a descendant Rudolph Feaster, who was raised by Silas and Julia (Kerr) Sparks, for which information we are grateful:
The following Obituary Notice appeared in the Winfield (Cowley County, Kansas) Courier in June, 1922:
"Sparks - Mrs. Julia K. Sparks of 514 East Tenth Avenue died Tuesday morning, June 20, at twenty minutes past seven o'clock after an illness of many years duration, being an invalid the great part of the time. The Sparks family is one of the early day families of Cowley County, residing on their farm nine miles southeast of Winfield until they moved to Winfield.
"She has been tenderly cared for by her daughter, Miss Mary Sparks, who has been her devoted and constant companion during her invalidism.
"Julia Kerr Sparks was born in Pennsylvania January 27, 1833, and was 89 years, 4 months and 23 days old. In 1868 she was married to Silas H. Sparks who preceded her in death 12 years ago. They came to Cowley County in 1874.
"One son and one daughter were born to his union, the son, Edward died in 1893. Mr. and Mrs. Sparks also reared Rudolph Feaster, who resides east of Winfield.
"The funeral will be held from the home Wednesday evening at five o'clock conducted by Rev. George St. George Tyner of Grace Episcopal Church. Buriel will be in Union Cemetery." Julia was buried on June 21, 1922 in the Union-Graham Cemetery, Winfield, Cowley County, KS.
