See the SPARKS QUARTERLY, p. 886 for the following marriage information from Lawrence County, Kentucky, Marriage Bonds (1822- 1865):
Nelson Sparks & Surrilda Holbrook, December 15, 1864. (Book 5, p. 55) He 19 years old. She 15 years old. Witnesses: Jno. J. Gambill & William Boggs, Jr.

SQ p. 4650:
"Nelson Sparks, son of Calvin and Sally (Lyon) Sparks, was born on June 1, 1845. He was a merchant. He was married twice. His first marriage was to Sarrilda Holbrook on December 15, 1863, in Lawrence County. She had been born on March 4, 1849. She and Nelson had three children. She died on December 18, 1920. Nelson's second marriage was to Mrs. Mary M. Holbrook in 1925. He died on February 26, 1932."

(JS: The reference to Nelson Sparks's second marriage to Mary M. Holbrook is possibly an error. In the QUARTERLY for December 1991, Whole No. 156, at p. 3869, it states that Nelson Sparks, son of William Jayne and Elizabeth (Hager) Sparks, married (3rd) Mary M. Holbrook in Lawrence County, Kentucky in 1925. The particular Nelson Sparks who married Mary Holbrook is uncertain.)

THE SPARKS QUARTERLY, March 1994, Whole No. 165, p. 4273:
"Nicholas Sparks, son of Solomon and Susan Sparks, was born abou t 1830
in North Carolina. In 186O, he was living next door to his brother J ames
Sparks, in Knox County, Tennessee. We have no further knowledge of h im."
As was stated earlier in the notes for his brother James, I believe t hat
Nicholas Sparks was born about 1836 per the 1960 census, not 1830. Al so
it would seem that he was born in Virginia, not North Carolina, thoug h the
census is silent on that point (or I failed to copy it down.)
