The following information was received on Nov. 18, 2000, from Jim and Tom Goldrup, 3rd great-grandsons of Minus and Rachel (Sparks) Griggs. Their email address was skyla@sasquatch.com.

"Anderson Griggs, son of Samuel and Rachel (McCarty) Griggs, born 1815 in Clark County, Kentucky. He married there in November of 1837 to Patsey Casey Clanton, daughter of Drury and Jemima (Walpole) Clanton, born March 8, 1816 in Davidson Co., Tennessee. At the age of two years she accompanied her parents to Montgomery County, Missouri. Within the first year of their marriage they moved to Quincy, Adams County, Illinois. In the early 1850's they returned to Missouri and settled in Ashley, Pike County. In 1869 they came west over the plains to California and settled in Yolo County, near her brother John in Cache Creek township. Anderson followed his trade here of wagon maker. He died there on December 3, 1873. Patsey died in Woodland, Yolo County, on July 2, 1906. The following statement comes from her obituary in the local paper: "During the thirty-seven year residence in Woodland, she made hosts of friends, all of whom bear cheerful testimony to the loftiness of her character and her noble qualities as a woman, a wife and a mother. She was noted for the generosity of her heart which knows and appreciates the sorrows and weakness of mankind. Her manner was affable and pleasing, and in person, mind and character her many noble attributes were conspicuous. She was deeply attached to her family and very considerate of the happiness and welfare of her friends, and the people among whom she lived so long will honor her memory."

"Clement Griggs, born about 1775 in Rowan County, North Carolina. He moved to Clark County, Kentucky, where he married on March 10, 1796 to Elesander Hall. Between 1820 and 1830 Clem moved west to Henderson County, Kentucky, where we last find record of him living in 1850. He married several times after the death of his first wife, all in Union County, Ky: May 12, 1828 to Nancy Barron; July 9, 1837 to Mary Abney; and Henrietta Floyd on May 28, 1857. It appears his family resided in Henderson and Union Counties, Kentucky. One deathdate (not documented by myself) given for Clement was 1873, making him nearly one hundred years old if correct. His middle name is possibly Rolen or Roland. Three of his children were Rachel, Roland and Minus Griggs."
